My Winter Project

It's such a pain in the a**e to be stuck in when it rains all the time. To take the monotony  out of that, my friend and I went out and bought a 1964 Bedford CA Utlibus. It was lying in a garage in Dumbarton and has either been a Civil Defence or Forestry Commission vehicle. It's painted a lovely shade of Army green with a small white circle on the front drivers wing, which has a number inside it. There is nothing else to give us more clues, but that will come with time. The interior is in good order, and externally it is almost perfect, except that it had got vandalised when in the garage and both sides of the van windows got smashed. That's not a huge problem as we can get flat glass cut easily, but it adds to the cost.

When we got it the owner said that the wipers, starter motor, heater motor and the electrics were knacked - but when we spent a little time on it we discovered somebody had managed to charge the battery the wrong way round! It was connected up properly, but the power was flowing the wrong way round - so the starter and heater motors were running backwards, the wipers had run backwards as well and managed to unscrew themselves off the drive spindle, and the electrics started working  properly once the right flow was established. It runs!!!!!!!!!!!

So that's my Winter project sorted, but Barbara has said "I can only go out to play when my jobs in the house are done", and I am really looking forward to papering the living-room!
